ELEMENTARY
Here is the elementary video for the week of October 24th.
KIDS LIVE
This week we talked about the story of Passover and reviewed the 10 plagues that had been sent by God upon the Egyptian people. Your family can read about these things and more in Exodus 7-12. Take time this week to pray with your family that God would watch over you, just as He did the Israelites.
HOOPS Challenge (10/24-10/29)
Read about the Israelites’ exit from Egypt in Exodus 12-14. Although they had followed Moses out of Egypt, the people hadn’t “Opened their heart” to God. In this passage, how did God show that He was with them?

Week of October 23
Here's what's happening in the PRESCHOOL classes this month:
During the month of October the children will learn “God loves me”. The children will be studying the life of Samuel. Lesson will include:
Helping at the Tabernacle
1 Samuel 1:28; 2:11, 18-21, 26
Samuel Listens and Obeys
1 Samuel 3
Samuel obeys God
1 Samuel 16:1-13
The Key Bible Verse is:
Psalm 116:1 “I love the Lord.”
The Key Concept kids will learn:
We can show love by helping others, listening and obeying, and choosing to do what is right.
How can you help your child: PRAY and PLAY
Parents need to pray and play daily with their kids. Prayer before school and bedtime is an important aspect of a child’s faith growth. More importantly, prayer is spiritually intimate and leads to a heart connection between parent and child. (Children’s Ministry Magazine Oct. 2011)
A note from the Preschool Coordinator:
Parents,
Each week, the three and four year old children will bring home Family Fun Time pages with a synopsis of the day’s Bible story, family activities, conversation and prayer for you and your preschooler to do together at home. The Family Fun Time pages provide a fun, interactive way for you to reinforce the Bible stories learned, with easy practical ways for you to continue spiritual learning at home.
Serving Him,

It's Elementary!
Your HOOPS challenge this week (10/17-10/22) is to read about the first 9 plagues that God sent against Egypt. (Exodus 6-10). They were sent to show the Egyptians that there was only one true God. Use HOOPS to think about what Pharaoh did in this time.
What is a HOOPS Challenge?
Each week your student will be challenged with a take home activity called a HOOPS Challenge. These activities help them look a little closer at the lesson and give their family a chance to guide them in their pursuit of Christ. The first challenges are listed on the back of the “Exodus” card your student received this past weekend. The challenges will also be posted here every week.
How do we complete a HOOPS Challenge?
To complete a challenge you have to start with HOOPS. Each letter represents something we can look at in the passage and is broken down below.
Hear God – How did the person hear God? What did God say?
Open your heart – Did they trust God? Was it easy for them to trust Him?
Obey God – Did the person follow God’s command? Did they do it right away?
Pray – Did they talk to God? Did they ask for His help or guidance?
Serve – By hearing, opening their heart, obey and praying to God how did they serve? Did they serve God or others?
Sometimes the answers will be easy and sometimes you need to think and talk about what happened. This is where parents are vital in helping guide their students to answers that lead them to deepen their faith and understanding.
Once we complete a challenge…then what?
There are two things you can do once you complete a challenge.
1. Bring in what you’ve done and discovered. Small group leaders will collect or record the HOOPS Challenges for their students. Please be sure the student’s full name is on the challenge. Once your child has completed 10 challenges they earn a glow in the dark star for their bracelet.
2. Don’t Stop! Use these challenges with the “Kids Live in 60 Seconds” to disciple your child. These are just starting points for your family to learn more about the word and talk about what that means in your family. Read the passages that surround our lesson. See where it started or what happened after the lesson. You could even use a devotion to guide your reading. Find a reason to read the Bible with your child every day.
Your student may start these challenges to earn a reward, but what they get from this time with you is priceless. By reading God’s word together, they get the story and can see Christ working in you. These challenges are made to give you a starting point to sharing God with your child, the rest is up to you.

Elementary Video Review
Moses was called to be a messenger of God to the Israelite people and the Egyptians. This wasn’t good news to Moses. He made many excuses for why he couldn’t be God’s messenger, but it wasn’t about Moses. This story is what God did through Moses despite his imperfection. God can do anything, we just have to let him. God still calls us today to be his messengers whether it is at school, the soccer field, or maybe even at home. When we get the chance to share God with others we have to remember it’s not about us, but what God can do through us.

October News
October is a busy month for Bay Life Kids. We have many classes being offered that we'd like to tell you more about. Here is some of what's being offered by our children's ministry:
Welcome to the Nursery is a class offered to new or expectant parents who are interested in finding out more about our nursery program. This class is designed to introduce parents to the nursery coordinators, tour the classrooms, learn parental and classroom expectations, as well as show you ways you can pray biblical characteristics over your child. The next class is October 9th.
Kids First Step is a class designed for kids in 3rd through 5th grade who are ready to be baptized and/or desire church membership. It's a two week class that teaches them about salvation, baptism, bible study and communion. A parent or guardian is required to attend with their child. The next class is October 16th.
Live Out Loud is a kids discipleship class. It's a four week class that is designed as a follow-up to our Kids First Step class. It's for children in 3rd through 5th grade who have completed Kids First Step and have been baptized. This class helps teach kids the next steps they should take in their Christian walk and how to live out their faith. The next class begins on October 30th.
Child Dedication is offered twice a year. This is an opportunity for parents to dedicate their children to the Lord and to establish a covenant between themselves and the church body to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Those parents who wish to dedicate their children are invited to a luncheon on the 13th where our children's pastor will discuss more about the covenant and the purpose of the dedication. The next dedication will be held November 19 - 20. Applications are available now.
For more information and to sign up for any of these classes, visit the INFOdesk in our lobby.

Train a child in the way he should go. When he is old, he will not turn away from it.

Growing a child is a full time job. We have 20 different roles as parents and the list is never ending. As a church we want to help with your most important job, discipling your child. We only see your child one day a week, but we want to give you opportunities to sit down with your child every week and read God’s word. To help with this Kids Live, Elementary Ministry, will be posting a video review of what we covered on Sunday every week. This will give you a starting point to go back and read the scripture and then talk about it with your child. As we get this process down we will also post challenges for families and different things to help you grow your child.
Here’s the first installment about Joseph from Genesis 37-45. (As you read Chapter 39 about Potiphar’s wife, you’ll need to filter the information to make it appropriate for your child’s age).Take time this week to read through the scriptures and talk about it with your child. Keep our power point we learned in mind as you read, God can use hard times to help me grow.
